Why Believe in God?
Many people feel unsure what to make of religious belief. For a long time it seemed science would prove it all a big mistake. Now the tide has turned. Increasingly, we feel the need to believe in something - but who, or what? It is one thing to believe there is someone or something up there, another to buy into traditional religious dogmas.
So what kind of god does it make sense to believe in? What kinds of belief fit modern knowledge of the world? Why does it matter? How does it help us make sense of our lives?
Starting on 3rd October 2010. 6.30pm at St Brides Liverpool.
Speaker: Jonathan Clatworthy.

Changing Attitude is an organisation which seeks to affirm the rights of lesbian and gay Christians within the Anglican Church. The Liverpool branch now meets at St Bride's.
St Bride's Community
A number of people involved in the life of St Bride's have begun conversations about the possibility of starting a "St Bride's Community" - sharing life, prayer and work together and including both resident and non resident members. There is a shared meal at St Bride's every fourth Sunday afternoon at 4.00pm - food, sharing and a simple act of worship or reflection. If this is something you would like to know more about, you can email Richard - richardepopp@hotmail.com
The Well at St Bride'sA time of informal worship in the Celtic tradition, drawing on material from Iona and beyond… using silence, symbol, light, poetry, music and more…
Every second Sunday each month at 6.30pm.

Ruach
Quieting the busyness of our minds by the gentle, focussed movement of our bodies - based on Chi Gung "moving meditation", then spending time with an insight from the medieval mystics. We aim to experience the divine Spirit through meditation and breathing, to allow space and time for listening to the Creator of the universe. Ruach is about to "go wild" as we leave the safety of St Bride's and begin to experiment with new venues and times... watch this space...
Living the Questions
- Exploring Progressive Faith
People know that at its core, Christianity has something good to offer humanity. At the same time, many have a sense that they are alone in being a "thinking" Christian and that "salvaging" Christianity is a hopeless task. What is needed is a safe environment where people have permission to ask the questions they've always wanted to ask but have been afraid to voice for fear of being thought a heretic.
St Bride's regularly runs the "Living the Questions" course - an exploration of Progressive Christianity. Click here to see an introductory video.
Social and Community Action at St Bride's
St Bride's is home to four community projects.
The Homeless Meal Project provides hot meals for the homeless and vulnerable. St Bride's Training provides educational opportunities for 14-16's excluded from mainstream school. Catalyst Arts Project engages with young people in the community through music. To find out more about these projects, and opportunities for volunteering and giving to them, click the links on the sidebar above. St Brides & Mildmay Allotment Project brings together formerly homeless residents of Chapter1 Mildmay House with volunteers from the University to grow organic veg in the garden at St Bride's.
The IChoir at St Bride's
We're a small friendly choir and we always welcome new singers and musicians. We perform 8 or 9 times a year at events around the city. We really enjoy our singing and we work hard to get out music sounding as good as it can be - but we're also here to enjoy ourselves, an to have fun, so the atmosphere is nice and relaxed. In fact we think singing is a great way to let your hair down and build confidence. Our our repertoire is a varied mix from the Beatles, Mamas and Papas & Simon & Garfunkel to the Eagles.......with a sprinkling of gospel......and we love singing The Coventry Carol at any time of year!
We are directed by our professional conductor,Chris, who rehearses the choir every Tuesday from 5.30 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. at St Bride's Church, Catherine Street, Liverpool. You're welcome to come and get an idea of what we do - we have a tea break half way through our rehearsal and a well eared pint after - so there's plenty of time to have a chat!

Prayer of the Month
May the blessing of light be on us,
light without and light within.
May the blessed sun shine on us
and warm each heart
til it glows like a great fire,
so that strangers and friends
may come in and warm themselves.
And may the light shine out
from our eyes,
like a candle set in the windows of a house.
And may the Lord bless us,
and bless us kindly.
May the blessing of light be on us,
light without and light within.
May the blessed sun shine on us
and warm each heart
til it glows like a great fire,
so that strangers and friends
may come in and warm themselves.
And may the light shine out
from our eyes,
like a candle set in the windows of a house.
And may the Lord bless us,
and bless us kindly.
